Early Childhood Education Amid COVID-19: Rebuilding Better for Black Latinx Children

The early childhood education (ECE) workforce has been in and at the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic. UnidosUS and the National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI), have developed a joint policy document in support of Black and Latina ECE educators, containing recommendations based on qualitative research efforts.

The recommendations address three key issues: 1) ensuring equal access to resources and funding; 2) prioritizing the development and implementation of culturally and linguistically responsive policies, practices, and classroom environments; and 3) increasing the compensation and professional development opportunities for advancement of the ECE workforce.  Read the report here.

Consumer Alert: Joining Forces to Stop Income Scams

We would like to share information on the Federal Trade Commission’s nationwide crackdown on income scams. The Consumer Alert, available in English and Spanish, states that the cases announced by the FTC and its law enforcement partners show that people in every community need to be on the alert for income scams. For example, Moda Latina, a work-from-home scam targeted Latinas through Spanish language TV ads. In another case, an alleged investment scam affected older adults, retirees, and immigrants. And in yet another case, we saw service members, veterans, students, and college-age adults targeted with a business coaching scam. You may read the FTC press release here: As Scammers Leverage Pandemic Fears, FTC and Law Enforcement Partners Crack Down on Deceptive Income Schemes Nationwide(in Spanish).

The announcement includes new educational materials to help consumers spot and avoid scams including:
