Comment Deadline EXTENDED to December 30, 2019 Fight Against Proposed Increases to the Immigration Application Fees

On November 14th the administration published a proposed new fee schedule that would increase fees for some of the most commonly used immigration applications by our community, putting them out of reach for many low-income immigrants. We are encouraging Affiliates to comment in opposition to the proposed rule. Comments must be submitted by December 30th.

What: Proposed increases in immigration visa and naturalization fees through the federal register

Why: To suppress naturalization and legal immigration

How to help: Submit a public comment opposing the changes on behalf of your organization (or personally)

When: Comment deadline is EXTENDED until Dec. 30

The administration’s proposed rule would:

  • Drastically increase the cost of naturalization from $640 to $1,170 — this is a historic high and a staggering 83 percent increase.
  • Create a new fee for DACA renewals, raising the total cost from $495 to $765.
  • End the long-standing fee waiver program that has kept naturalization, green card renewals and other benefits accessible.
  • Transfer $207.6 million from immigrants to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to use for enforcement.

How to Comment:  Please check out this website for template and sample comments:

Tailoring the message is critical for the comment to “count” as a unique submission. You can submit online via the docket on

Your comment matters! Public comments contributed heavily to the public charge rule getting stopped by the courts. Judges rely on community input!

Important: Please let us know if you have provided public comment so we can capture the complete picture of our impact.
