Earlier this November, Affiliates from El Paso welcomed 72 participants from 38 different Affiliates sites representing all six UnidosUS regions of the Affiliate Network. El Paso Affiliates,YWCA El Paso Del Norte Region, Centro de Salud Familiar La Fe, Project VIDA Health Center, and Project BRAVO, were exceptional host to folks joining from across the country. Coming to El Paso opened the door to the warmth of the El Paso community and gave participants a peek into the challenging times this community has encountered and the resilience that stands. Affiliates in attendance were able to hear from topics such as; building a movement of social change, partnerships in the corporate world, the leaders that are changing communities, and the different ways in which are leveraging the partnership with UnidosUS. The El Paso Fall Affiliate Convening was filled with learning opportunities, many connections were created and reinforced, and momentum was built as we move to 2020. Affiliate of the Year Peer Exchange Registration is Open – Join us at MEDA in San Francisco! January 23 – 24, 2020.
At the 2019 Annual Conference, UnidosUS proudly presented the Affiliate of the Year Award to Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA). Please join us for a showcase of MEDA’s exemplary model at the UnidosUS Affiliate of the Year Peer Exchange in January happening Thursday January 23 – 24, 2020. Join us to learn more about MEDA’s multifaceted approach to addressing housing needs in the Mission District of San Francisco and how their exemplary work as a housing developer, service provider, Community Development Financial Institution (CFDI) Lender, and advocate is transforming lives.
A limited amount of travel stipends are available to Affiliates whose organizations are in good standing with membership compliance (dues, recertification, and co-branding) and that are traveling outside of the Bay Area. Join UnidosUS for a Telephonic Town Hall on Wednesday December 4th on the ACA Open Enrollment Period
Sign-up to join us on 12/4 at 4:30PM (PST)/7:30PM (EST) to learn more about what actions you can take to get covered and stay healthy in 2020! Similar to a radio call-in program, a telephonic town hall allows you to participate in an interactive town hall meeting from the comfort of your home.
Now is the time to shop around, understand your options, and get covered by the December 15 deadline. Millions of Americans, including four million Latinos, have gained access to health coverage under the ACA. We must do as much as we can to build on our gains and make sure that every eligible member in our community who is currently uninsured gets covered.
Since 2013, the ACA has provided 20 million Americans, including four million Latino adults and 600,000 Latino children, with access to health coverage and care. Join us in taking action to make sure our family and friends get covered!

UnidosUS's Health team and our Affiliate La Clínica del Pueblo will be part of a national webinar to talk about the barriers that Latinos face accessing the opportunities they need to be healthy. They will explore ways in which community-based organizations are working to improve the health of the Hispanic community by addressing the social determinants of health. Together with County Health Rankings and Roadmaps, UnidosUS and La Clínica del Pueblo will be part of this webinar on December 10, 2019, at 12:00PM (PST)/3:00PM EST. You can register here.
UnidosUS Changemaker Registration is Open, Will You Join Us?
The UnidosUS Changemakers Summit brings together aspiring activists and community leaders who are committed to advocating for Latinos. After two days of learning and practicing advocacy skills in Washington, DC, the Summit ends with visits to Capitol Hill to meet with members of Congress. In an encouraging and collaborative setting, policy experts shared updates on the latest issues affecting Latinos, and attendees left with a better understanding of how to advocate for the things that matter to you most.
UnidosUS Affiliate Leaders (CEO/Executive Directors, Affiliate Board Members, and/or Senior Staff) that register for the All-Inclusive registration and whose organizations are in good standing with membership compliance (dues, recertification, and co-branding) may be eligible for a travel stipend. Additionally, UnidosUS organizations may be able to access up to four stipends to bring participants registered for the Youth Session. Please check out the Affiliate Portal stipend page for instructions on requesting a stipend after completing registration.
Take Advantage of the Leadership Opportunity to Serve as State Lead!
Affiliate representatives have the opportunity to serve as State Leads at the Changemakers Summit working with other members of their state's delegation to lead important meetings with legislative representatives. UnidosUS provides support including:
·Virtual training via webinar to help you organize your state delegation.
·UnidosUS issue briefings and resources to schedule your visits.
·On site preparation at Changemakers summit to prepare participants for legislative visits.
This is a great opportunity to collaborate with folks from your delegations and elevate a unified voice on behalf of the Latino community!

Fight Back Against Proposed Increases to the Immigration Application Fees!
On November 14ththe administration published aproposed new fee schedulethat would increase fees for some of the most commonly used immigration applications by our community, putting them out of reach for many low-income immigrants. We are encouraging affiliates to comment in opposition to the proposed rule. Comments must be submitted by December 16th.

Affiliates can use this template comment to explain opposition to the proposed fee rule and addressing the changes that would most significantly impact their programs, including significant fees increase for naturalization and family-based green cards, the elimination of full and partial fee waivers, the increase in fees for DACA renewal applications, and the new fee for affirmative asylum. This template is intended for use by agencies that provide direct services to immigrants and is intended to be adapted to reflect the organization and clients’ concerns. We highly encourage agencies to tailor the comment and make it their own.
