Latina Equal Pay Day is Tomorrow! Please Help Us Spread the Facts!

November 20, 2019 is Latina Equal Pay Day! More than 50 years after the passage of the Equal Pay Act of 1963, Latina's typically earn only 54 cents for every dollar earned by white, non-Hispanic men and must work nearly 23 months to earn what white men earn in 12 months.

Check out the following fact sheet to learn more about the wage gap and how it impacts Latinas, their families and the U.S. economy:

Fight Back Against Proposed Increases to Immigration Application Fees!

On November 14, 2019, the Department of Homeland Security published a proposed rule increasing the filing fees on many immigration applications and increasing the naturalization application fee to $1170, eliminating fee waivers for naturalization and most other immigration benefits, eliminating the reduced fee request option, and transferring over $200 million to ICE. The proposed fee increases will not go into effect before the public submits comments and DHS goes through the process of considering the comments and publishes a final rule. This could take several months. We do not yet know when the new fees will go into effect, but in the meantime, we will be providing information on how you can respond to oppose the proposed rule. To learn more, join our partners at CLINIC for a webinar on the proposed rule.

On November 21, 2019 at 11 AM Pacific/2 PM Eastern, CLINIC is holding a free webinar on the proposed fee rule and how to fight back. Register here. A recorded version of this webinar will also be posted on the CLINIC website.

Materials created by CLINIC:

Individuals can use this online template to customize and submit comments using this link created by our partners at CLINIC:

Staff of organizations, clients, friends and family can submit individual comments. Your name and identifying information will become part of the public record. If you are uncomfortable with that, you have the option of submitting a comment anonymously through this platform by typing "anonymous" twice in the name box. Comments must be submitted in English.

Affiliates can use this template comment to explain opposition to the proposed fee rule and addressing the changes that would most significantly impact their programs, including significant fees increase for naturalization and family-based green cards, the elimination of full and partial fee waivers, the increase in fees for DACA renewal applications, and the new fee for affirmative asylum. This template is intended for use by agencies that provide direct services to immigrants and is intended to be adapted to reflect the organization and clients’ concerns. We highly encourage agencies to tailor the comment and make it their own.
