Below you will find the UnidosUS Affiliate Digest, a weekly 

newsletter that highlights events, updates, and resources. 

We encourage you to share information on upcoming activities or successes at your organization to

include in the Digest.

Will You Join Us for this Year’s Fall Affiliate Convenings? Register Today! 
 

Join UnidosUS Affiliate Council Representatives and UnidosUS staff for a convening of UnidosUS Affiliates happening in California and Texas. UnidosUS will host two Fall Regional Convenings open to all Affiliates providing two options for Affiliates to participate.

Affiliates meet for two-days and participate in workshops, networking, and leadership development. We are working with the Affiliate Council leaders to develop dynamic and engaging agendas that will include Affiliate voices on:

·         Integrating Advocacy into Social Services

·         Elevating Responsive Leadership

·         Innovative Solutions to Increasing Housing Access for Latinos

·         Building Community Power as Community Based Organizations

·         And more!

A limited amount on travel stipends will be available to Affiliates that are current with membership including co-branding.  (Detailed agendas forthcoming)

Are You Interested in Providing Immigration Legal Services? Free Trainings Available

If you have new staff or volunteers who are interested in becoming accredited representatives, they can enroll at no cost in the Comprehensive Overview of Immigration Law (COIL) online course offered by CLINIC. As an UnidosUS Affiliate, you have free access to an intensive six-week e-learning course that provides immigration law advocates and new practitioners with an overview of core immigration law concepts and the practice skills necessary to be an effective advocate. This course is a great way to quickly learn the fundamentals of immigration law necessary to be an effective practitioner and establish the training background to support an application for the non-attorney immigration law credential called Department of Justice Recognition and Accreditation. 

Who: Staff or volunteers of UnidosUS Affiliates interested in providing immigration legal services? This course is appropriate for the aspiring or new practitioner who is prepared to make the time commitment required to fully participate in this course and complete its requirements.

What: This course has an accelerated pace, including two 90-minute webinars each week, as well as self-directed learning activities to support each course unit. Overall, a course participant should expect to spend between eight and ten hours each week to attend or listen to recordings of the weekly webinars and complete the corresponding course activities.  The course consists of live webinars and a set of self-directed activities, which include readings, exercises and a quiz. The webinars will be recorded, allowing students the flexibility to work the course into their busy schedules.

When: The course opens on September 16th and runs through October 31, 2019.  The webinars are 90 minutes each. Schedule and course outline is available via this link!

Deadline to Take the 2019 Race to Lead Survey is August 28, 2019 

Building Movement launched the 2019 Race to Lead Survey. This short, confidential survey is open to anyone working for pay in the U.S. nonprofit sector. It focuses on experiences at work, views of leadership, and perspectives on nonprofits and race. By participating, you will contribute to one of the largest existing data sets on race and leadership in the nonprofit sector, and will help inform the next round of Race to Lead reportsThe survey should take about 25 minutes to complete. Center for American Progress Survey for DACA Recipients
 

In Collaboration with Professor Tom Wong of the University of California, San Diego, United We Dream, and the National Immigration Law Center, the Center for American Progress has launched the fifth annual DACA survey to learn more about the impacts of the DACA program on beneficiaries and communities. This survey is for anyone who currently has DACA, anyone who has ever held DACA, or a DACA-eligible individual who has been unable to apply due to the program’s rescission. Webinar Recording: The Latest Developments in the “Public Charge” Rule
 

Last week, Carlos Guevara, Senior Policy Advisor at UnidosUS, and Jackie Vimo of National Immigration Law Center hosted a webinar on “The Latest Developments in the “Public Charge” Rule”.  Please click here to find the recording of last week's discussion.

On page 18, you will find links to the resources from the Protecting Immigrant Families campaign mentioned on the call. You will also find two additional resources UnidosUS created for Affiliates: (1) an advisory on key points for conversations with community members; and (2) general talking points. On the research side, you can find a roundup of the most recent studies on the chilling effects of public chargehere.
