Weekly Legislative Outlook

Please read this week’s Congressional and Legislative Outlook and read about what to watch for this week!

Trump’s Executive Order: Retreat and Misdirection

This Executive Order does not end indefinite detentions for families and children. We need to keep this outrage and pressure going. Despite being rebuked by nearly everyone, the president issued an executive order that is nearly all misdirection. We cannot allow the barbaric and un-American treatment of those seeking refuge from violence and persecution to continue by other means such as indefinite detention of families and storing these families in military installations.

We demand families are reunited and free!

UnidosUS joined Voto Latino  and hundreds more at the port of entry in Tornillo, Texas on Sunday, June 24, 2018 to demand to end family detentions. Many human rights leaders and activist were present at this demonstration and Tornillo, TX is only the beginning, join us in DC and around the country on June 30th as we continue the fight to end family separations.

 Developing a bilingual workforce

Latinos and the Spanish-dominant are far less likely to keep their money in a bank, partly because of the language barrier. The UnidosUS Latinos in Finance program implemented by Mi Casa not only helps adults establish a career in financial services, but also helps increase the representation of Latinos in the sector. Having more bilingual Latino employees helps the banks provide services that meet the needs of diverse customers.
