Affiliate Co-branding Questionnaire

Deadline: February 23, 2018

This fall, we shared many examples of how Affiliates can join us in lifting a unified voice for the Latino community by engaging in our co-branding efforts. The following questionnaire will help us evaluate where the UnidosUS Affiliate network is at meeting the goals we shared last fall. We do not expect that all Affiliates will meet all the co-branding examples we shared with you, rather your participation will help us determine what barriers remain and help measure progress towards goals.

Click here to complete the questionnaire.

For your participation in this questionnaire, your agency will be entered into an opportunity drawing to win (1) $500 stipend and (2) UnidosUS 2017 Conference registrations. Only one questionnaire per agency will be accepted. Please designate one staff member to complete the questionnaire. We will take the first entry from your agency as the official entry for the first drawing. The first drawing will take place on February 23, 2018. The first round of winners will be notified March 9, 2018. Read the complete rules here.

RWJF LEADERSHIP FOR BETTER HEALTH

Deadline: March 14, 2018

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s leadership programs are designed to extend the influence and impact of leaders working to build a Culture of Health. Building a Culture of Health requires engagement among leaders who represent every sector and discipline, and communities with limited resources and opportunities. It demands recognition that health is greatly influenced by complex social factors—education, neighborhoods, transportation, income, and faith—in addition to health care. Integrating Advocacy for Social Change into Nonprofits

The Building Movement Project will facilitate a 90-minute workshop with UnidosUS Affiliate leaders on how organizations that provide needed services in communities can also integrate social change principles, advocacy tactics and constituent engagement practices into their everyday work. Through a mix of discussion, participatory activities, and the introduction of conceptual frameworks, workshop attendees will gain tools to apply to their own work, and build connections to also support each other in sustaining organizational change processes. By conducting organizational assessments and sharing specific strategies to gain Board Member buy-in, we will map out opportunities for social change.

CONGRESSIONAL DYSFUNCTION FAILS DACA RELIEF ONCE AGAIN

UnidosUS expressed deep disappointment in congressional leadership for passing yet another stopgap bill that does not include a firm DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) fix, even though a CBS News poll released this weekend showed that nearly nine out of every 10 Americans support relief for DREAMers.

“We are angered that the President and the congressional Republican leadership spent the weekend, not negotiating a compromise but instead defaming and demonizing DACA recipients. The will of the American people is clear—they do not want to see DREAMers deported—yet the administration and Republican leaders are still catering to the tiniest and most extreme elements of their base,” noted UnidosUS President and CEO Janet Murguía.”

“The inclusion of long-term funding for CHIP is a key step forward and should not be overlooked. But we are very disappointed that the Democratic leadership did not adequately make the case to the American people of why the issues they were fighting for, such as disaster relief, health care and DACA, are matters of life and death and should not be treated as political bargaining chips. Our message to both parties—do better for our country,” concluded Murguía.

Help us amplify this message by retweeting Janet Murguía.

UNIDOSUS PRESIDENT AND CEO SPEAKS UP ON BEHALF OF PUERTO RICO

Watch this clip of UnidosUS President and CEO Janet Murguía asking for Congress to provide fair and adequate aid to

Puerto Rico where 1 in 3 residents are still without power: https://youtu.be/YFYGwR2vBAs

Puerto Rico should not be treated any differently than any other state. And the island must be provided with the level of resources they need and are requesting. This is what we would expect our government to do for any other state or U.S. jurisdiction. The House disaster aid package falls painfully short of addressing Puerto Rico’s humanitarian crisis. Simply put, Congress must do better. Read more here.

WHAT TO DO IF ICE SHOWS UP AT YOUR AGENCY’S DOORS

Communities around the country that support immigrants are working to develop plans to protect vulnerable families.

Click here to access a toolkit for nonprofits developed by pro bono lawyers on what you need to know if ICE comes to your agency and what you can do to set up a policy in advance to know how to respond.

Among these efforts are also those initiated by public school systems around the country, all of which are uniquely affected by the federal government’s enforcement activity. Click here to access a guide designed for public schools.
